Beilin University developed a flexible anisotropic sensor based on carbonized crepe paper

Recently, Xu Feng team of Beijing Forestry University has developed a flexible anisotropic sensor based on carbonized crepe paper by simple and low-cost preparation technology. Relevant results were published in Advanced Functional Materials.

Flexible strain sensors have potential application value in the fields of motion detection, human-computer interaction and wearable electronic devices, and have become a research hotspot in the field of sensors in recent years. The development of anisotropic flexible strain sensors with superior performance is of great significance for promoting the large-scale application of wearable electronic devices in the fields of multi-dimensional strain detection and multi-axis human-computer interaction.

The team uses crepe paper as a raw material, using its directional fiber and wrinkle structure, transforming it into a conductive network using simple high-temperature carbonization, and retaining an anisotropic microstructure, which in turn passes PDMS (Design Management System Software) The packaged resistive flexible anisotropic strain sensor was fabricated. In addition to exhibiting significant sensitivity to strain sensing differences in parallel and perpendicular directions, the sensor combines excellent flexibility, fast response, and excellent reliability and stability. The team used flexible sensors for motion detection and human-computer interaction between two-degree-of-freedom robots. It is found that after the two anisotropic strain sensors are orthogonally coupled, the strains in the horizontal and vertical directions do not interfere with each other, and multi-dimensional strain sensing and human-machine interaction with the two-degree-of-freedom device can be realized.
