IvankaTrump and fabric dealer Unicolors reach a settlement on fabric infringement lawsuit

The eponymous brand of American socialite IvankaTrump (the eldest daughter of US President Trump) has reached a settlement agreement with the Los Angeles fabric manufacturer Unicolors on legal proceedings.

Previously, Unicolors filed a lawsuit in the federal court in Los Angeles against the IvankaTrump brand and its parent company G-III Apparel, claiming that the latter sold a patented print on a jacket sold by retailer TJMaxx, with only minor modifications. Production and sales, and caused damage to Unicolors.

IvankaTrump is not the only brand that has been sued by Unicolors. For only the same patent print, Unicolors filed a total of 40 lawsuits, and the total number of lawsuits now exceeds 200.

Although the specific terms of the agreement have not been announced, the IvankaTrump brand said that Unicolors's behavior is part of their strategy and also complies with US intellectual property laws.

The IvankaTrump brand has long been plagued by legal litigation issues. Designer DerekLam and the California brand Mystique all accused the brand of plagiarism. In April of this year, the G-III with IvankaTrump brand clothing production and distribution rights was released (in order to hide the eyes and ears). The IvankaTrump brand products were relabeled and sold to the discount retailer SteinMart under the brand name of AdrienneVittadini, and IvankaTrump was unaware of it.

The lawsuit of the IvankaTrump brand suspected of copying the Italian luxury footwear brand Aquazzura is even more troublesome. The trial date has been determined and the New York District Judge Katherine Forrest will decide on the case in March 2018. Although IvankaTrump's legal counsel believes that she should not be present in the case because she is in a government position, Judge Forrest decided that IvankaTrump needs to attend the court hearing.
