LETO STUDIO: Are we consumers or people who are consumed by the times?

Leto Studio was founded in London in 2018 by designer Leto (Chen Jianwei) and later set up a studio in Taizhou, Zhejiang. The designer believes that "the clothing that is getting along with each other is a material manifestation of the externalization of inner emotions."

Leto Studio hopes to maintain the wearability and comfort of the garments, while presenting the brand's unique rebellious spirit and aesthetic style through interesting details and patterns, thus expressing a modern attitude towards modern young people.

And the designer ends Studio as the brand, he hopes that the brand can hold a heart of clothes in a fast-paced social environment. This is why the designer moved the studio back from London to his hometown.

Designer introduction

- Designer Leto (Chen Jianwei) was born in 1996 in Taizhou, Zhejiang. After graduating from high school in 2014, I came to London to study in England.

- Graduated from the London College of Fashion undergraduate major in 2018. In October 2018, he founded his own menswear brand Leto Studio.

- Leto has been internship in New York women's clothing brand Derek Lam, London designer brand Phoebe English and Chinese designer brand Angel Chen.

- Out of curiosity about the fashion world, Leto also worked as a PR intern at the KTZ headquarters in London and has been working in the Dover St head office in Acne Studio, London.

- Leto is also a contract model for the London Model Agency, which was closed for the Vivienne Westwood 2018 Spring/Summer fashion show. The model experience during the school year allowed Leto to have more opportunities to participate in the fashion industry besides fashion design, and later as producer of the inner page for Esquire Fashion magazine.

Season series

The collection is inspired by the Victorian Handcraft made by Victorian women. Victorian women are a neglected group, and the reasons for the times make it impossible to truly receive equal treatment and recognition from society.

The handicrafts made by women at home are the only channels they have to shine. Exquisite handmade lace and embroidered, presenting the suppressed heart of women and the aesthetic yearning for silence. As a designer of the millennial generation, Leto resonates with it. He believes that clothing that is in harmony with the body is also a material manifestation of the externalization of inner emotions.

The effect of this set of silver-nylon fabrics is the result of trying many times with the screen printing process. Because of the special nature of the nylon fabric, the texture of the black nylon fabric is the crack of the designer's hand torn a little, and then the white is thick. Some sewing threads go back and forth to the firm line on the car. Flowers have a meaning to women, and cracks are a symbol of struggle, echoing the theme of rebellious spirit.

19 autumn and winter series

The Leto Studio AW2019 Fall/Winter collection was inspired by the artist Charles Fréger's photo "Wilder Mann".

The photographer loves to use the lens to truly record the culture between the different peoples and tribes he sees and contacts. The fabrics and colours of this season's autumn and winter collections are inspired by the ancient tribal culture of the book and the environment in which they live.

Charles Fréger uses photography to present an ancient and original light for us living in the data age. We have to start to reflect on why in the complex social relationship, people are closely connected but more and more strange. Are we a consumer or a consumer of the times?

Before the end of the pixelated apocalyptic world, humans may be automated at the end of their breath. Perhaps the flesh that is full of soul and spirit may not exist.
